A product with an exacting quality all covet, but few achieve; Its sonic ability which is the aspiration of all other speakers. The Genesis 1.1 is a product people long to own. Few have seen or even heard this loudspeaker, but all who own it wouldn't trade it in for anything else! It is the world's ultimate cost-no-object reference loudspeaker system.

This is one of the very few speakers in the world that is capable of recreating the size, weight, impact, and listening levels of a live performance with ease. Any passage, no matter how demanding, is reproduced with absolute fidelity. The Genesis 1.1 creates one of the most convincing soundstages in the world, short of being there yourself - be it a large orchestral performance, a rock concert, or a solo unamplified voice.

For film enthusiasts, the Genesis 1.1 plays with all the delicacy to render the softest whisper to the loudest roar of a dinosaur. The power handling of this loudspeaker is unlimited in a real-world sense.

Technical Details

The Genesis 1.1 consists of four major modules: two midrange/tweeter screens and two bass towers. Each module is 7.5' tall, and is covered in the most beautiful plantation grown South American rosewood that money can buy, and hand finished to the most exacting furniture grade standards possible.

Each of the midrange/tweeter panels is 42" wide and houses a 75" tall ribbon midrange with twenty ribbon tweeters on the front and six in the rear to form a near perfect dipolar line source array. Each baffle is machined out of a solid piece of one inch thick black Corian.

The tweeter is our own proprietary 1" ribbon built from an incredibly thin membrane of Kapton and aluminum (.0005" thick). Behind the flat diaphragm of the tweeter is the motor, a precision machined and focused magnetic structure.

The midrange module is a single 75" dipolar ribbon driver. A push /pull dipole configuration was chosen to eliminate the distortion inherent in many single ended ribbon designs. The diaphragm of this driver is made of a 0.001" thick Mylar film laminated with a thin aluminum strip, which acts as the voice coil of the driver. The entire device is suspended in a powerful magnetic field created by over 30 feet of Ceramic 8 magnets.

At 7.5' tall and 18" wide, the two bass towers each house six servo-controlled twelve inch metal cone woofers individually driven by a pair of six channel servo amplifiers connected to the woofers via custom 3,000 watt hand-crafted servo-bass cables. The fully discrete servo amplifiers are remote controlled. Functions include volume, low pass, high pass, phase and power. Inside each, there are three toroidal transformers that deliver the power, which is adjustable to any line voltage a customer might desire.

The crossover module for each of the midrange/tweeter panels is housed in a separate Corian enclosure with a tuned suspension system to isolate it acoustically. Inside the crossover, Genesis has incorporated the world's first multiple tap copper foil inductor for the midrange and our own proprietary polypropylene film and foil capacitors for the tweeter array.

The complete Genesis 1.1 system consisting of the six separate elements weighs over 1 l/4 tons and is shipped in six wooden crates.

The Genesis™ 2 version 2 loudspeaker system is created for the music lover who accepts no compromises in the reproduction of the musical event. It is the culmination of a 30-year legacy of reference-level line-source dipole flagship loudspeaker systems dating back to the Genesis I in 1993, and even back to the IRS™ in 1977.

This state-of-the-art system is designed to reproduce music at live listening levels with virtually no restrictions on dynamic range, frequency response, or width, breadth and height of soundstage. The Genesis 2 is commissioned, not simply bought off the shelf - it is custom-built in the USA for the most dedicated and discerning music-lovers worldwide.

The midrange/tweeter 'wings' are now made of solid cast acrylic up to 1½ inch (40mm) thick to make an even more inert baffle on which to mount the drivers. The geometry of the wings was revised for more controlled dispersion and better integration with the woofer towers.

The Servo-Controlled Bass Amplifier was completely redesigned. Taking advantage of the improved Servo-Bass Cable, the sensitivity and speed of the servo feedback control was increased. New Class D modules with zero propagation delay and higher current capability are used. Subtle changes in bracing reduced modal vibrations and boxy coloration in the woofer tower cabinet to practically zero. This resulted in even faster, more dynamic, and better-defined bass.

The G2 also features a unique suspension system so that it can be used on the many different types of floors encountered throughout the world - including natural stone tiles, slate, polished granite and marble, deep pile carpet, and suspended hardwood. Designed like the suspension system of a race car, steel spikes and an acrylic frame hold the loudspeaker rigidly and transfer any vibration to earth for best imaging and bass control. Neoprene shock absorbers make sure that vibrations from the floorboards do not get transmitted back up to the speakers. The result is cleaner, tighter bass, a more precise and holographic soundstage, and better imaging.

The standard finish a high-gloss black acrylic, but any other color can be specified as a custom finish. When you have a Genesis 2 system in your listening room, you have live music in your home and you have the best seats in the house. No rain checks, no lost tickets, no concertmaster with the flu, no substitute divas. The Genesis 2 is the ultimate expression of your love of music.

Technical Details

The G2 is a four-tower loudspeaker system featuring separate midrange/tweeter “wings” and servo-controlled woofer towers. This separation allows the mid/high frequency panels to be placed to optimize soundstage and imaging for the listening position, and the bass towers to be placed for smooth and extended bass response within the room.

The high frequency wings are dipole line-sources. That means that there is minimal vertical dispersion, and horizontal cancellation in the plane of the drivers. The result is minimal floor and ceiling “bounce” and very much reduced side-wall reflections, resulting in solidly pin-point imaging, and a wide and spacious soundstage. The listening “sweet spot” is also hugely extended, which means no more listening alone, and no more having to sit in only one position to best enjoy your music.

The separate bass towers can be correctly placed within the room without affecting the soundstage and image at the listening position. With a column of bass drivers extending almost the height of the room, there are no standing waves between the floor and ceiling. This results in tightly-controlled, extended, smooth, and dynamic bass response in any room.

The G2 also features its own servo-controlled bass amplifier for the woofer towers. This means that there is no need to have to choose between using a muscle-bound amplifier with enough power to drive the woofers and a lower-powered amplifier having better harmonic, tonal and spatial characteristics. Servo-control results in extended bass response down to 16Hz, and vanishing low distortion throughout the range.

The servo-controlled bass amplifier is divided into a control module and two amplifier modules plus a power supply module. Dedicated cables are provided for all bass connection. This results in great flexibility in placement and connection. Upgrade options are also available for the amplifier to extend dynamic response and headroom, as well as longer cables for even more flexibility in placement.

The Genesis 2 provides the dedicated audiophile with ample means to adjust the sonic presentation: a tweeter pot tailors the high frequencies for different room environments; and in the servo-controlled bass amplifier, gain, low-pass filter, high-pass filter and phase adjustments affords ability to adjust the bass to match the listening room. A unique midrange switch allows for adjustment of soundstage height for personal preference. Some of us prefer the orchestra seats in a concert hall, others prefer the circle seats: the G2 allows you to pick your favorite.

One side benefit of the included woofer system, worthy of note, is the fact that almost any sized power amplifier may be used to drive the upper section of the Genesis 2. No longer must one choose between having enough amplifier power to adequately drive the woofers and yet maintain the spatial qualities found in many small power amps.



Genesis G5.3

 



The G5 Generation III is the latest generation of the revered 5-Series loudspeakers starting with the Genesis V in 1994. It comes from immaculate pedigree; the second generation G500 was reviewed and recommended by Stereophile, and received numerous accolades from around the world. The third generation G501 was renowned for setting standards in bass performance and musical coherence and the fourth - G5.2 - was featured on the cover of the February 2006 issue of Stereophile.

The new G5 represents a shift in design direction for the company. Careful steps were taken to raise the impedance of the crossover in the frequency ranges most affected on the previous model. A higher impedance crossover network works better with a tube amplifier because the lowest impedance point does not result in reduced output voltage from the amp, and a consequent hollowness in the midrange. With a solid-state amplifier, the higher impedance results in less stress on the power supply, and no hardness in the midrange because of distortion at that point. This was done without resorting to Zobel networks, which would have filtered off some of the musicality and dynamics of the loudspeaker. The higher impedance and new crossover makes it easier for real-world amplifiers to drive. That results in a loudspeaker that will be able to realize its potential when used in any music-lover's system.

The new G5 also features a unique suspension system for the cabinet so that it can be used on the many types of flooring encountered throughout the world - including uneven natural stone tiles, granite and marble floors, deep pile carpet, and suspended wooden floors.

The suspension system is like that of a race car. It has wheels (spikes), the suspension frame, and shock absorbers (decouplers). It isolates the speaker from floor-borne vibrations when used on suspended wooden floors (like the common construction used in the US). It also makes sure that speaker vibrations do not get transmitted into the floor and as a result affect your electronic and source components. The result is cleaner, much tighter bass, a more precise and holographic soundstage, and better imaging in more rooms and installations.

While the G5 is first and foremost a loudspeaker for music, doing duty as part of a home theater system would not embarrass it. It will play to audacious levels, and bass response is full and extended with the built-in 500W servo-controlled bass amplifier and three 8" aluminum cone woofers per channel.

The servo-bass amplifier allows for both single-ended and balanced inputs and outputs for LFE - because most home theater systems only have single-ended outputs. The newly designed 8-inch woofers use a stronger motor structure, stiffer frame, and larger suspension to achieve higher SPL's with less distortion. The woofers have a 12% longer throw than the older G5.2 woofers. This results in the three woofers moving as much air as the four woofers in the first generation G-V. As they are also lower-distortion motors, the bass section on the new G5 is better than the bass section of the G-V.

The G5 is a diminutive giant. Other full-range speakers are behemoths - they are taller, wider, deeper, or just plain BIG. The G5 delivers profoundly powerful bass and a huge life-like soundstage in a beautiful, graceful, and physically unobtrusive form. Launched at CES 2003 as the first new product of Genesis Advanced Technologies, the 6-series remains close to our hearts. However, it was time to update the series at the end of 2008, and the line is discontinued and awaiting the launch of the second generation during CES2010.

The G6.1 was the first Genesis product that was purpose designed for home theater applications in complement to its audiophile sensitivities. It introduced the LFE Blend™ technology which allows each loudspeaker not only to deliver full-range music, but also at the same time function as a Low Frequency Effects subwoofer.

Genesis 7.2f



The Genesis™ 7.2f floorstanding loudspeaker is the new affordable reference for bringing true to life music into your home. The G7f is svelte and elegant, yet it performs like a much beefier loudspeaker, delivering bass down to 22Hz, with a huge and enveloping soundstage, creating an immersive sound experience.

A Legacy of Excellence

Technologies used in the G7f have their roots in the development of the flagship Genesis 1 loudspeaker system. With a legacy hearkening back to the 1960's with the invention of the servo-controlled woofer, Class D amplification, and ribbon tweeter, tried and proven technology has been updated and modernized for this latest model in the Genesis product line. New discovery and innovative thinking makes the G7f the smallest possible loudspeaker to achieve absolute fidelity™ in musical reproduction.

Two stand-mounted monitor models in this series, the Genesis 7.1c (convertible) and the Genesis 7.1p (petite), launched in 2005 and 2006 respectively, are considered by customers, dealers and reviewers as giant killers with big sound from little speakers. World's Best Tweeter

The ring-ribbon tweeter used in the G7f is identical to the one used in the Genesis 1 flagship model. It has been regarded by critics and press as the best tweeter in the world.

With this tweeter, you get the air in cymbals and triangles, and the sweetness and lack of distortion associated with the finest ribbon tweeters in the world. An adjustable high frequency control allows it to be used in "bright" rooms with lots of hard surfaces and bare walls, and yet also used in rooms that have lots of carpeting and wall hangings that would otherwise sound dull.

Servo-Controlled Bass

The bass generated by this speaker is astonishing at first encounter. It seems to go deeper than is physically possible in such a small cabinet. Unlike other small, sealed loudspeakers that try to go down low, extended note decay, micro-dynamics and timbre of bass are fully preserved.

There is no sloppy overhang and boominess in the bass either as it is not ported. Just clean, distortion-free bass down to 22Hz with the built-in 8-inch solid-aluminum cone side-firing subwoofer. This is made possible by improvements to the Genesis servo-bass system which overcomes the inertia and momentum of the woofer, making the woofer seem effectively massless.

An adjustable bass gain control allows the speaker to be used in different rooms without the fear that bass from the loudspeaker will over-power and sound boomy in small rooms, or sound thin and appear weak in larger rooms.

Clarity and Dynamic through the Midrange

The G7.2f has a warmth to its sound that is not created by an excess of energy in the lower midrange, but by distortion-free mids and highs because of a solid titanium-cone mid/woofer and a brand new crossover topology.

The solid metal mid/woofer delivers warm and rich sounds without any distortion. While it is true that some metal drivers sound "metallic", that is due to the oil-can resonance of the cone. However, since metal drivers only have the one huge distortion frequency, there is almost zero distortion outside that one resonant frequency. It sounds beautifully clean if that frequency is never excited. In the G7f, that oil-can frequency is far outside the operating range used.

The new crossover imbues the G7f with effortless dynamics and intense foot-tapping musicality by perfectly blending the supremely fast ribbon tweeter with the solid titanium mid-woofer. The result is a clarity and transparency that needs to be experienced to be believed. Emotions and tonal colors are transparently conveyed, as is the musical intention of the performers.

Foot-tapping pace, rhythm and timing allow the G7f to play all genre of music, from rock to rumba to classical. A deep and expansive soundstage with solid, pinpoint images complete the sonic picture, transporting the listener to the live musical event.

To achieve the delicacy, speed, transparency, and bass response of the larger Genesis 3-way systems with a separate midrange in a 2-way system, we developed the world's first solid-titanium cone mid-woofer.

This made the Genesis 7.1c possible - a monitor-sized loudspeaker that will fit into a tight environment. The Genesis 7.1c has been designed as a "convertible" loudspeaker - our lingo for an L/C/R: a loudspeaker that can be used as a stereo pair, a center channel, or a surround or rear channel.

Used as a stereo pair on an appropriate loudspeaker stand, the monitor-sized G7.1c has spectacular imaging and soundstage. With a rear tweeter driven out of phase from the front tweeter, the G7.1c is a dipole in the high frequencies, enhancing "air", and soundstage and imaging when the speaker is positioned away from a rear wall.

Aesthetically, the Genesis 7-Series reflect the artistry and sculptural elegance of the highly regarded 6-Series in a smaller package.

Technical Details

The Genesis 7.1c is LC-tuned to optimize bass response down to 50Hz from a small cabinet, and yet it is also designed with a view of the entry-level amplifiers that are likely to be used to drive it. Hence, LC-tuning and the rear tweeter can be separately defeated.

A speaker level through-put allows convenient connection to any Genesis ServoSub™ for full frequency response. With better amplification, the G7.1c is able to scale the sonic heights of its more expensive brethren.

The G7.1c is built to the same exacting quality as the well-regarded Genesis 6-series. The drivers are mounted on a front baffle that is a full 36mm thick. The cabinet has the same solid construction, and the crossover is built with the same high quality components that are the hallmarks of the Genesis design.



Genesis 7.2p


When Genesis makes a petite loudspeaker for small rooms, you can rest assured that it will produce nothing less than absolute fidelity™. To achieve the delicacy, speed, transparency, and dynamic bass response of the larger Genesis 3-way systems in a little 2-way loudspeaker, we developed the world's first solid-titanium cone mid-woofer.

This made the Genesis 7.1p possible - a tiny loudspeaker with a big voice. Despite its svelte proportions, the G7p displays much of the familial sound of its larger bethren - effortlessly dynamic with intense foot-tapping musicality.

Technical Details

Despite being the baby of the family, the G7p is built to the same exacting quality as the larger Genesis speakers. The drivers are mounted on a baffle that is a full 1½ inches thick in a cabinet built to our exact standards. The crossover is built with the same quality components use throughout the Genesis product range. With a rear tweeter driven out of phase from the front tweeter, the G7p is a dipole in the high frequencies, enhancing "air", imaging and soundstage depth.

The G7p produces prodigious bass from a small sealed cabinet. Yet, it is also designed with a view of the entry-level amplifiers that are likely to be used to drive it. Unique among small monitor loudspeakers, the G7p features a passive bass contour control that allows it to deliver more bass when driven by more capable amplifiers.

A speaker level throughput allows convenient connection to any Genesis ServoSub™ for full frequency response. With better amplification, the G7p is able to scale the sonic heights like its more expensive brethren.

The Genesis Servo-Subwoofers were created using several refined technologies - servo-control, metal cone drivers and efficient, hyper-linear switching (Class D) amplification - which makes it able to accurately and instantaneously reproduce the subtleties of a bowed double bass or the shuddering footfalls of an angry T-Rex.

A precision accelerometer continuously monitors the woofer's movement and makes instantaneous corrections, even when it includes complex, rapidly evolving musical bass lines or cinema special effects.

While typical non-servo woofer systems have distortion levels that exceed 10% at even moderate levels, the Genesis servo bass system reduces this distortion to below one percent at almost any output level.






B 100

B 100

The B100 is our flagship among the Burmester loudspeakers range. The homogeneous and time-optimized reproduction and the live-like dynamics belong to the supreme duties of the B100.

During performance, the B100 presents itself as an aesthetic speaker, which can be easily integrated into your living environment, despite its imposing dimensions.

Every single path of the 3-way B100 is separated from the other by phase-linear filters. Tweeter and mid-range are arranged in a d’Appolito configuration, which allows a balanced radiation, a high impulse consistency and relaxing long-term-listening. Even at highest levels the sound converters, having an imposing weight of 128 kg, never distort or fatigue the ear.

The cabinet of the B100 is double-walled (sandwich) in order to minimize cabinet resonances of any kind. In the interaction with the Burmester-characteristic damping system – felt-mats accurately fitted to the cabinet – the bass sounds outrageously fast and outlined at all times. Due to the abandonment of extensively spread sound proofing wool low frequencies remain well-audible even at very low volume



B 80 MK2

The loudspeaker B80MK 2, exemplary in appearance and sound, descends directly from our flagship speaker B100.

Tweeter and mid-range are arranged in the d’Appolito configuratio here as well.

Due to its inner reinforcement with up to 37mm strong complex MDF-boards, not even high-force levels around 115 dB are able to discountenance the imposing speaker having a weight of 65 kg. The rounded shape and the chamber system minimize reflections within the cabinet; felt-like mats dampen all vibrations of the side panels. The result is a dry and outlined bass at any volume.

The crossover is located in a separate and enclosed chamber. Having a weight of approximately 5 kg, it is supposedly one of the most elaborate constructions worldwide.


B 50

B 50

The B50 is closely related to our flagship loudspeaker B100 regarding sound as well as appearance.

Our aim was to realize the acoustic amenities of our reference speaker in a consolidated construction. Just like the B100, the B50 has a elaborated cabinet, which allocates a separate chamber, exclusively dampened, for the crossover.

The B50 also impresses with its natural sound reproduction, even at high levels. The cabinet is constructed from strong 25mm MDF-boards with stable reinforcement, which have been brought into the rounded shape. The unique build up and the chamber system minimize the influence of reflections within the cabinet. The felt-like damping mats, fitted to the inside panels, absorb all kinds of cabinet-vibrations. These features, characteristic for all Burmester speakers, are mainly responsible for the impulsive and outlined bass of the B50.

The loudspeaker 961 MK3 emanates from the founding days of the successful Burmester speaker families.

The mid-range is proprietory development and profits from experiences that were gained during the construction of the loudspeakers for the Bugatti Veyron. The speaker’s sovereign superiority is reached by the sophisticated Kevlar membrane with its precise and detailed mid-range reproduction.

The woofers are positioned on the internal sides, which are facing each other. Resulting from this alignment, only the desired low frequencies reach the listener, but not the overtone. In addition, this is responsible for the enormous power and substance of this loudspeaker.

Woofer, mid-range and tweeter of the 961 play in perfect unison and are therefore guarantee for a harmonic interplay as well as exemplary neutrality.

As accustomed from other Burmester components, older 961 MK1 and MK2 may be upgraded to the current 961 MK3 version.

The M5i two-way bass reflex speaker may be the baby of the new series, but its performance belies its size. It is equally at home in a two-channel or home theatre application. As you would expect, it is fully shielded magnetically.

The M5i includes our revised Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal dome tweeter, designed to have smooth, clear extended treble. This tweeter features a strong die-cast aluminium alloy face plate, moulded surround, ferrite magnet and Ferrofluid cooling.

The new Epos 140mm (5.5in.) mid-range woofer reproduces dynamic, natural bass and mid-range frequencies. This robust drive unit has a die-cast aluminium alloy chassis and phase plug, with contoured moulded polypropylene cone. To reproduce bass cleanly and powerfully, it is loaded with a port flared at both ends, which reduces turbulence and distortion. The crossover is centred on 3kHz and incorporates film capacitors in critical locations.

The bi-wirable input panel is made from solid anodised aluminium alloy, with sturdy high-spec terminals suited for spade lug or other types of plugs. High-grade metal links join the terminals together and can be removed for separate connection to each driver.

The front and rear baffles of the cabinet are 25mm (1 in.) thick to reduce unwanted vibration and coloration. In a choice of three pattern matched real wood veneers, the M5i will be equally at home in a traditional or contemporary setting. With its stylish silk cloth grille it integrates easily with home furnishings.

The current flagship of the Mi range of speakers, the 2 ½- way M22i, has deeper bass and higher power handling than the M16i. In designing the M22i, the Epos engineering team designed a high performance two channel speaker that would be equally at home in a home theatre application.
The M22i uses the revised Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal dome tweeter, designed for smooth, clear and extended treble. The upper frequency crossover is centred on 5kHz and the minimalistic 1st order crossover is simply a polypropylene film capacitor.
Epos has designed a robust new 165mm (6.5in.) mid-range woofer with die-cast aluminium alloy chassis, phase plug and moulded polypropylene cone. Its curved cone profile and graduated thickness were engineered to ‘roll off’ high frequencies mechanically, in a smooth fashion. It also has very high power handling. As such, the woofer requires no electrical crossover (neither high pass, nor low pass) to reproduce dynamic, natural bass and mid-range frequencies in this model.
The mid-range driver runs in a sealed chamber, with the tweeter. It is designed to naturally roll-off around 80Hz, with useful output below that. The woofer and mid-bass output overlap and work effectively as one bigger unit. This reinforces the power and dynamics of this compact speaker.
The 165mm (6.5in.) bass driver is similar to the midrange but has a weighted dust cap instead of a phase plug. It is mounted in a separate chamber in the lower section of the cabinet and is loaded with a rear-firing port, flared at both ends for low turbulence and minimal distortion. It is also filtered by the crossover to limit frequencies above 100Hz.
Together, the woofer and mid-range units handle very high powers. We recommended that the M22i should be partnered with an amplifier that is capable of driving a four Ohm load to high levels.
The tri-wirable input panel is made from solid anodised aluminium alloy, with sturdy high-spec terminals suited for spade lug or other types of plugs. High grade metal links join the terminals together and can be removed for separate connection to each driver.
Great care has been taken with the manufacturing of the cabinets. They are grain pattern matched for each pair. Internally, extensive bracing and 25mm (1 in.) thick front and rear baffles have been skilfully engineered to reduce unwanted cabinet vibration and coloration. Grilles are made of silk cloth, over an MDF frame, for easy integration with home furnishings, although the M22i is equally attractive without the grilles. A black lacquered integral plinth, which includes sturdy steel inserts to take adjustable 8mm carpet spikes, completes the package.

Entering the marketplace in June 2005 the ELS 303 is the latest powerful new speaker from Epos. Combining the sonic strengths of the ELS 3 bookshelf speaker with an integrated 130mm woofer, this 2 ½ way floor-standing speaker now covers a much wider range of frequencies than a bookshelf or stand mount speaker can.
The ELS 303 utilises the Swift Tweeter and Lightning 130 midrange driver from the ELS 3 with improvements to the cross-over and midrange linearity. Epos has also developed a new 130mm woofer, based upon the same chassis as the Lightning 130 midrange. It can be differentiated by the round dust cap and lack of cone damping material used on the outside. The woofer is coupled to the rest of the speaker in a 2 ½ way fashion with a high linearity crossover which rolls off at 100Hz. This combines with the low frequency output of the midrange to give added power handling to the bass, while maintaining a very slim 150mm front baffle, which improves imaging at high frequencies.
The cabinet has the same footprint as the ELS3 but the height is 87.5cms, including the plinth but not spikes. This brings the tweeter up to the optimum 81cms listening height to the user, when seated. The midrange section is not ported. The woofer section is braced and sealed off from the midrange section and is tuned with a port to 47Hz, which determines the lower cut-off frequency of 43Hz for the speaker.
Because the ELS 303 is a tall and slim speaker, it needs to be stabilised to prevent it being accidentally knocked over. Epos has designed a PVC foiled MDF plinth, which is attached to the bottom of the cabinet with 6mm bolts. The plinth increases the footprint of the speaker to make it more stable. 6mm spikes are also supplied to help decouple unwanted energy from the cabinet/plinth, when in use, through to the floor.
To enable the user to connect the bass driver separately from the midrange and tweeter, a gold plated bi-wiring terminal is used. Metal links join the upper and lower sections together and can be removed by the user to allow bi-wiring.

The new Epos M16i is a floor-standing 2 ½ - way speaker which excels in accuracy, dynamics, imaging and poise. This speaker was designed to be equally dynamic in a two-channel or home theatre application. The result is a loudspeaker with deep bass, a fast dynamic sound and very high power handling. It is equally at home playing music or movies and is of course magnetically shielded.
The revised Epos 25mm (1 in.) low distortion metal dome tweeter used in the M16i is designed for smooth, clear and extended treble. Designed to complement the new M5 bookshelf speaker system, the center channel is both elegant and functional. Available in a choice of dark cherry, light cherry or black, the front baffle of the M8 is also finished in real wood making this centre channel a stylish addition to any system.
The final design of the M8 has incorporated an unusual and acoustically advanced crossover which reduces the colouration when two mid/bass units are in close proximity to each other. The ELS SUB has a massive and powerful 10" loudspeaker driver fitted to the front of the cabinet, with enough magnet strength and voice coil size to handle very high power levels for long periods without distress. Its cone diaphragm is very stiff to keep distortion and colouration to a minimum. The rubber suspension surround is smaller than normal and quite stiff, which also helps to reduce distortion and low frequency over-hang. In short it has been designed to be more appropriate for a two-channel bass unit than a conventional sub-woofer.
To further boost the fidelity of the ELS SUB it has a very stiff cabinet with extensive internal bracing which is rarely found in conventional subwoofers. It has a completely separate section at the back of the cabinet to house the amplifier, which is more normally found in professional speakers and not found in conventional subwoofers at any price.
To further improve the sound quality Epos does not use port tuning to achieve increased bass extension, which avoids 'chuffing' air turbulence noises interfering with the fidelity of the loudspeaker.
As a general rule, stereo systems tend to be difficult to integrate with conventional sub woofers because, for the most part, sub woofers are generally not designed to match them, and therefore suit 5.1 systems only. The Epos ELS SUB is different and was conceived as a means of extending the frequency response of a small pair of bookshelf speakers, rather than just producing large outputs at one particular frequency, such as 60 Hz.
This may appear to contradict established principles, but Epos engineers have not limited themselves to only trying to produce a product that plays 'one note' sound. For that reason the ELS SUB is capable of extending low frequencies with a relatively flat response down to 20 Hz. This is most unusual and would normally be unheard of in conventional woofers, because apart from anything else their cabinets and amplifiers would rattle and buzz, due to the simple method of construction used.
As a consequence of the design principles, this ELS SUB is dynamic when part of a 5.1 system.
Back panel controls include High Level Input, Volume, Low Filter, Power Switch (when left on with no signal the sub's standby feature activates, AC Voltage Selector Switch, High Filter, Phase, Low Level Input, and High Level Input.
Additional features to be found in this sub are both over current cut-out and over temperature cut-out. The ELS SUB does not use a compression limiter to pre-distort the signals it cannot handle. No amplifier has infinite power capabilities and has to be protected against destroying itself under extreme conditions. To protect the sub's 300W amplifier from excessive current demands it has been designed to cut the signal to the speaker in the event of an overload. The sound output is restored automatically immediately the demand is lower. To protect the amplifier from damage caused by excessive heat, there is a thermal sensor attached to the amplifier's heat sink that is set to trip the output if the internal temperature exceeds a pre-set level. The reasons this might occur are high ambient room temperature, direct sunlight, high level operation for long periods and insufficient ventilation of the amplifier control panel.
With a finish similar to the ELS 3 speakers and ELS 3 center channel, the new ELS SUB will be available in the same three finishes - light cherry, dark cherry and black ash. The sub woofer has a black fabric grille and is sold complete with spikes.

The M Sub is designed to be a down firing speaker, with fixed height legs to stand on. These can be used on their own or with the matching wooden plinth that protects the driver and allows the driver to breath properly. 6mm carpet spikes or soft foam pads can be fixed to the bottom of the plinth, depending on the floor surface or personal preference.

THE GRAND REFERENCE VI


The Grand Reference VI represents a major upgrade to our flagship loudspeaker system. All elements of the system that affect sound quality have been upgraded. Drivers now number 54 of the highest quality transducers for the system.
The true ribbon tweeters have been fitted with twice as powerful neodymium magnets, which doubles the acceleration of the diaphragm while further reducing the very low distortion. The special alnico magnet mid range drivers has reduced mass and optimal phase plugs for faster response and lower distortion. The magnesium woofers have been redesigned for greater "openness" and cleaner sound. The subwoofer drivers have been improved with lower noise and distortion.

In addition, the passive crossovers, the electronic low pass filter, the subwoofer venting system and the wiring have all been redesigned for superior performance.

GRAND REFERENCE VI MAIN TOWER

The Main Tower employs a total of 23 of the highest quality transducers per channel. The Main Towers are built in mirror-imaged arrays for accurate imaging. Eight advanced 4½ inch cast frame woofers per channel reproduce Bass and mid-bass frequencies from 40 Hz to 400 Hz. Four woofers are mounted at the top and four are mounted at the bottom of the Main Tower. The eight 4½ inch woofers employ cast, surface treated magnesium cones with natural rubber surrounds and solid copper-machined phase plugs. Perfect piston response is maintained to a high 10 kHz, far beyond their 400 Hz operating ranges, for excellent impact and low coloration. The woofers are mounted with two in each separate chamber and each chamber is loaded by an individual rear mounted double flared port. There are a total of 4 rear-mounted ports per Main Tower. Cabinet walls are bonded with proprietary damping layers for inaudible coloration. The low frequency section of the Grand Reference VI reduces the moving mass to only 27% of that of previous versions. The effect of this reduction in mass is a quantum improvement in providing a life-like bass attack.

The all-important mid range system consists of six 110mm tri-laminate cast frame transducers, per tower, operating on an open baffle over the range of 400 Hz to 3500 Hz and driven by premium Alnico magnet systems. The six mid range transducers are deployed in a short vertical line array, between the woofers and adjacent to the tweeters. The open baffle Alnico mid- range drivers provide excellent low-level resolution and dynamics, while eliminating cabinet mid range coloration. Harmonic structure is especially accurate, while the special transient response of this driver (as has been commented on before) allows clear separation of the attack, sustain and decay elements of musical sounds- for a more life-like reproduction.

The high frequency transducer system consists of nine 4-inch true ribbon tweeters per tower, operating in a short vertical line array. These transducers are true ribbons wherein the conductor and the diaphragm are one and the same. The moving mass is only .0061 gram for near instant acceleration. Extreme high-level transient attacks are taken in stride without harshness, allowing for instance, live levels of cymbals and other harmonically rich musical sounds to be reproduced. Driven by heavy neodymium magnet systems, these transducers are equally comfortable reproducing nuance as well as extreme peak levels. Nine small ribbons are utilized in lieu of one large ribbon in order to take advantage of the superior control of the smaller diaphragm, for greater accuracy.

GRAND REFERENCE VI SUBWOOFER TOWER

The Grand Reference VI Subwoofer Towers are designed to complement the response of the main towers from 12 Hz to 40 Hz. The Main Towers operate full range to their acoustic rolloff while the Variable Low Pass Filter rolls off the response of the Subwoofer Tower at 40 Hz. This frequency is continuously variable separate, high current, stable amplifier is required to drive these towers. Each Subwoofer Tower consists of four high-output 12-inch transducers operating in a vertical array. Each transducer is isolated in a separate vented chamber to eliminate inter-driver interference. A 3-inch diameter exponential flared port is provided for each 12-inch transducer. The port is flared both on the inside of the enclosure as well as the outside, for minimum low frequency distortion. Special low distortion voice coils driven by massive double-stacked 7 LB magnets for each driver, provide greater than 1¼ inch peak to peak linear excursions. Output at 20 Hz with both towers driven is greater than 120 dB. Proprietary damping material is applied to the cabinet walls to further reduce coloration.

VARIABLE LOW PASS FILTER LP2

Based on a design pioneered by Carl Marchisotto when at Dahlquist in 1976, this remains the preferred way to integrate a subwoofer system with a high-quality, wide-band main transducer. The LP2 provides continuously variable cut-off frequencies from 37 Hz and up. Stereo bass is provided. The LP2 accepts balanced inputs and outputs.

BABY GRAND REFERENCE



At the January 2008 CES, Accent Speaker Technology introduced the Nola Baby Grand Reference loudspeaker. Four years of research have gone into this product, as it uses the same technology found in our flagship $145,000 Nola Grand Reference. The Baby Grand is a smaller two-tower system utilizing the exact same transducers as are found in the Grand Reference in order to provide the same quality. A pair of Baby Grand towers employs four 9-inch magnesium woofers, eight 4½-inch open baffle dipole midranges with Alnico magnets, and eight 4-inch true ribbon tweeters with neodymium magnets. The drivers are arrayed in a unique mirror-imaged, short line source, open baffle array. Enclosure coloration throughout the middle and high frequencies is non-existent. This unique design produces life-sized images while retaining focus and sounds "live" instead of the typical mechanical sound of most loudspeakers.
The 3½-way passive Xtreme Crossover is mounted in an external unit to further free the loudspeaker from coloration due to crossover component vibration. The Xtreme Crossover utilizes state of the art passive components as are used in the Nola Grand Reference. The Baby Grand comes with a ball-bearing speaker isolation base to free it from the sound of coloration due to floor vibrations. The Xtreme Crossover is bi-wired to the amplifier and is connected to the speaker via the supplied Nordost Valhalla mono-filament jumpers.

METRO GRAND REFERENCE


The Nola Metro Grand Reference is a compact floor standing loudspeaker that requires only one square foot of floor space while providing near state of the art performance. This design utilizes the same Alnico midrange, true ribbon tweeter and dual magnesium woofer technology as our larger models. The bass drivers are 6½ inch diameter extra long stroke transducers for excellent power handling. Each bass driver is enclosed in a separate chamber and is tuned by its own separate twin flared port for extremely clean bass reproduction. The state of the art mid- and high-frequency drivers are operated on an open baffle in the 45° mirror-imaged array as in our other models in the Grand series.
The exclusive open baffle ribbon tweeter eliminates any type of extra diaphragm, as the ribbon conductor is the diaphragm. The moving mass of this design is about twenty-five times lighter than any type of dome tweeter and therefore provides natural reproduction and a wealth of musical detail. The lack of an enclosure in the midrange and high frequencies eliminates a large source of coloration.

The integrated crossover system is built on three separate hand-wired boards. Top quality audiophile-grade components are used throughout. Inductors are flat wound oxygen-free copper types and capacitors are 630-volt polypropylene units. The crossovers are hard wired (no printed circuits) for maximum sound quality.

The Metro Grand Reference utilizes a built-in double platform base with ball bearing isolators to further reduce coloration. The bases are finished in true piano black gloss.

The Metro Grand Reference is ideal when the expansive musical sound of the Baby Grand Reference is required - but in a smaller footprint design when floor space is a consideration.

MICRO GRAND REFERENCE MK 2


The Nola Micro Grand Reference is a stand-mounted loudspeaker that utilizes the same driver technology and concept as the floor-standing Baby Grand Reference. Driver complement consists of two magnesium woofers, one alnico magnet open baffle midrange and one open baffle true ribbon tweeter in a 3½ way design. The driver array utilizes our 45° mirror-imaged array for the midrange and tweeter. The twin 120mm cast-frame magnesium woofers operate in a rear vented enclosure. The vent is an oversized, double flared design to eliminate port noise. The 110mm cast-frame alnico magnet midrange operates as an open baffle dipole. The open baffle ribbon tweeter eliminates any type of extra diaphragm, as the ribbon is the diaphragm. The moving mass of this design is about 25 times less than any type of dome tweeter and provides the natural reproduction of a wealth of musical detail. The lack of an enclosure in the midrange and high frequencies eliminates a large source of coloration.

Rear View
The 3½ way integrated crossover system is built on three separate boards and utilizes top quality audiophile-grade passive components throughout. Inductors are flat wound oxygen-free copper types and capacitors are 630 volt polypropylene units. The crossovers are hard wired (no printed circuits) for maximum quality.

The Micro Grand utilizes a built-in double platform base with ball bearing isolators to further reduce coloration as is used in the Baby Grand Reference. The bases are finished in a true Piano Black. The Micro Grand is designed to provide the same musical experience as the Baby Grand, and is ideal when state of the art sound quality is desired for smaller venues.

THE CONTENDER


The Nola Contender is a slim floor-standing tower loudspeaker that is the step up from the very popular Nola Boxer bookshelf. Compared to the Boxer, the Contender offers sonic improvements in the areas of depth reproduction, dynamic range, low level resolution and bass extension. The low frequency response has been extended to a conservative 35 Hz with usable response to 25 Hz. The bass quality of the Contender, however, maintains the quick and nimble characteristic of the Boxer.
The driver complement consists of two low mass 6½ inch bass drivers and one high resolution silk soft dome tweeter in a vertical array. Each bass driver is housed in a separate chamber and is individually ported. This technique, while costly, eliminates driver interference and provides increased clarity. The upper driver is ported to the rear, while the lower driver is loaded by a downward firing port. The chambers are tuned to different frequencies to provide the smoothest and most extended inroom bass response.

The Contender is a true 3-way system with the benefit of increased mid-range clarity, yet it maintains the coherency of a good 2-way. We feel this approach, while more costly, is superior to a 2½-way design where both the bass and bass/midrange drivers have to cope with deep bass reproduction.

The Contender maintains the smooth 8-ohm impedance characteristic and high 90dB sensitivity of the Boxer so that use with amplifiers of 30 watts or more is feasible. The Contender footprint is the same as the Boxer.


NOLA


BOXER


The Boxer is a 2-way stand-mounted monitor built to Nola standards throughout. It incorporates a low-mass 6½-inch bass/midrange driver with a laminated pulp cone for low coloration and high speed. The high frequency driver is a high-resolution silk dome tweeter with smooth extended response. In addition, a diffraction ring is utilized. The bass driver is loaded by a rear firing twin-flared port for low distortion and noise. Although the main priority here is the best possible mid-range quality (as in all Nola speakers), the bass response has been extended to 44 Hz in order to provide a full range sound. Rear connection is by a pair of high quality all metal gold-plated 5-way binding posts. These connectors are fixed directly to the cabinet, thereby omitting the sonically deleterious effects of plastic connection plates often used.
The all-important crossover is a shallow slope design with excellent phase characteristics. The construction employs only point-to-point hand wiring of very high quality components. Capacitors are 630-volt high purity polypropylene types and only air core inductors are used. Resistors are close tolerance 2% metal types.

   
Wiring is proprietary low-loss oxygen-free copper. The crossover also incorporates a shock-isolation system in order to minimize the effects of vibration for a cleaner sound. The 90dB sensitivity combined with an 8-ohm impedance makes the Boxer easy to drive.

The net result is a wide range dynamic transducer that is accurate but is also truthful to the music. The sound stage is very large and "open", yet has excellent focus. The low distortion provided by the Boxer means that long listening sessions are possible without fatigue.

ANOUNCER


The Nola Announcer is a high performance center channel loudspeaker that perfectly matches the Nola Contender and the Nola Boxer for multi-channel and home theater applications.
The Announcer employs two 6½ inch bass / mid-range drivers and one high resolution silk dome tweeter. These are the same high quality drive units that are used in Contender and Boxer. The bass / mid-range drivers are housed in a sealed cabinet for ease of installation and excellent dialogue intelligibility in real-world applications. The Announcer is fully shielded to prevent video interference when placed close to video displays. Special techniques are employed in order to allow installation above or below the video display.

The high 93dB sensitivity and smooth impedance allow ease of interfacing with "real world" electronic systems

REFERENCE CENTER CHANNEL


The Nola Reference Center Channel loudspeaker employs open baffle technology to eliminate box coloration from home theater reproduction and to provide a perfect match to other Nola Reference loudspeakers such as the Baby Grand Reference, Metro Grand Reference and Micro Grand Reference. It matches our other Reference loudspeakers both in concept and quality. Four state of the art transducers are used in a 3-way system with a vertical mid-range and tweeter array, flanked by two horizontally deployed woofers.
The bass drivers are 180mm diameter cast frame units with magnesium cones and ultra low-distortion motor systems for clean, natural, tight bass response to 35 Hz. The mid-range driver is our premium Alnico magnet / phase-plug tri-laminate cone unit -- the very same unit utilized in the Baby Grand Reference. It is operated without any enclosure as a dipole for lowest coloration. The high frequency driver is a custom version of the Raven true ribbon tweeter. This new version has twice the magnetic force from its neodymium magnet system for twice the acceleration of the ribbon. This transducer has 26 times less moving mass than any known dome tweeter for unparalleled speed and resolution. Fatigue-free long-term listening with the Reference Center is now a reality. The ultimate in Nola "live", open, spacious reproduction is provided.
